Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, here you can schedule a free call for us to chat a bit about your book and discuss what you are looking for (this is a no-obligation call).

  • When working with authors, we go through everything needed at the beginning of our work together. But you can already find here a list of the necessary info & files you will need to provide.

  • From starting our work together to receiving the final book files, it can take about 4 to 7 weeks (this already includes the time between the different rounds of feedback). The duration will depend on the size of your book and if we are also working together on the cover design and proofreading stages.

  • I require a couple of months notice to secure your spot in my schedule, but feel free to get in touch in case I have availability sooner!

  • I use Adobe InDesign to typeset books. It is a publishing and page layout designing software application. InDesign provides access to a catalog with many fonts that are licensed for embedding in PDFs and can be used in printed books.

For eBooks, I use InDesign to build the structure of the book. Afterward, I switch to Sigil (a multi-platform EPUB ebook editor), which allows me to access the HTML/CSS code to tweak it as needed.

You won’t need to use any of this software to handle the book files. I deliver print-ready PDF files for the paperback/hardcover versions and a reflowable EPUB for the eBook—all files according to your publishing platform’s specs.

  • If you hire me to do custom typesetting for your book, I will create 2–4 samples of custom page layouts for you to choose from.

In case you have budget restrictions and cannot afford my customized service, you will be given a selection of different elements to choose from, including examples of page layouts, and formatting options. You will be able to then mix and match the elements to your liking for the creation of your book interior.

  • I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Publishing. I started working in the industry in 2009 as a PA in a publishing house and specialized as a typesetter in 2011 while working for a translation company.

Since 2019 I have been a freelancer, supporting independent authors and publishers with print and eBook projects.

  • I am currently based in Portugal (same time zone as London). All email response times are Monday–Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Calls can be scheduled with a 12-hour notice during office hours, and dependent on my availability.

  • Yes, most of my clients are US-based, and I have worked with people in the UK, Germany, France, Portugal, Switzerland, and Australia, too. I speak three languages, have experience working on multilingual projects, and can typeset books in multiple idioms.

  • My package rates start at €255 (EUR).

You can find all info on my packages here. Do not hesitate to get in touch for a custom quote if what you are looking for doesn’t fit into a package!

  • I require a 50% deposit to secure your spot in my schedule. Please find information on my payment policy on the Terms & Conditions page here.

  • There is no VAT to pay on top of my rates—this is a benefit of hiring a freelancer rather than a company. There are also no extra processing fees for online payments.

You will pay the amount stated on the quote/invoice with no added fees.

  • Please contact me to explain your situation and ask about payment plans. Alternatively, I can always recommend some of my colleagues who will be a better fit for your budget.

  • Please start here. I will get back to you as soon as possible!

  • The manuscript should be reviewed by an editor prior to it being formatted. The only revisions we will be doing at this stage are correcting small errors and inconsistencies in the text—this is the last opportunity to catch typos you and your editor(s) missed.

For this reason, only one round of revisions is included during our work together—it occurs after I typeset the entire book. It is intended for correcting errors in a “proof” version of a book in its final form. This review will be done by you and/or a proofreader on a PDF file (instructions on how to do this are provided).

After receiving the final files, you are still entitled to revisions; however, these include corrections up to 10 small amends per 100 pages. Any substantial changes to the book will require a new quote.

  • I don’t offer that kind of support. However, I can share links to where you can find instructions on how to do this for the platform(s) you are using to publish your book. I can also introduce you to colleagues who offer that service.

  • Yes, here is a list of peers from the industry (editors, proofreaders, cover designers, illustrators, book coaches, and book marketing specialists).
